Our Story
Hi, I am Dr Ho Hui Jun.
DEdPsy, PGDE, HCPC (UK)
I am an Educational Psychologist with over 10 years of experience working in Singapore and the UK. Over the years, I've had the privilege of supporting children, young people, families and schools to create meaningful lasting change.

I hold a Doctorate in Educational Psychology from UCL's Institute of Education, where my research focused on friendships and social relationships of students with complex communication needs, an area I remain deeply passionate about, because every child deserves to feel connected, valued and understood.

Professional Journey
1.
Teaching Foundation
My path into psychology began in the classroom as a teacher and assistant year head, where I learned just how much children's learning and wellbeing are shaped not just by lessons, but by relationships, environments and the support around them.
2.
Special Education
From there, I moved into curriculum and policy development at Singapore's Ministry of Education, shaping inclusive practices and special education initiatives at a systems level.
3.
Learning and
Mental Health Services
I currently work across nursery, primary and secondary schools and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in the UK, providing services to support learning and social emotional mental health needs. I am also a fieldwork tutor at the Institute of Education, University College London, where I supervise trainee educational psychologists.
What all of these experiences have taught me is simple - schools and parents want the same thing, for children and young people to be happy and learning well. My role is to offer practical support, a listening ear, and strategies that create real, lasting change. Where every child's journey is valued, and no road is walked alone.

Hi, I am Dr Diona Zheng.
DEdPsy, PGDE, CPsychol, HCPC (UK), MSPS (SG)
I am an Educational Psychologist working with children and adolescents, alongside families, educators, and multidisciplinary professionals. Like my partner, my professional roots are grounded in education, and this teaching foundation continues to shape how I understand learning, behaviour, and wellbeing in real classroom contexts.
Professional Journey
1.
Teaching Foundation
I began my professional journey after completing my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (Honours) in the UK, followed by training as a primary school teacher.
2.
Special Education
I went on to work within the Special Education branch of Singapore’s Ministry of Education, where I developed a deep appreciation of the everyday realities of schools — the pace, the pressures, and the small moments that can make a meaningful difference to a child’s learning experience. This early work sparked my interest in understanding how children think, feel, and engage, particularly those who learn differently.
3.
UK and Singapore Experience
My path then led me back to the United Kingdom, where I completed my Doctorate in Educational Psychology (DEdPsy). I spent over nine years working within the Educational Psychology Service of an Inner London Local Authority, supporting children and young people across a wide range of learning, behavioural, and social-emotional needs. During this time, I worked closely with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, collaborative, and context-sensitive support.

In 2023, I returned to Singapore with my family. Alongside my work at The Open Road Collective, I provide assessment services in private mental health settings and with the Dyslexia Association of Singapore, working with children and adolescents with learning difficulties and neurodivergent profiles, including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I am a part-time lecturer and clinical supervisor with the National Institute of Education. I am also an SRP-Registered Psychologist and Approved Supervisor in Singapore.
Across all my roles, I draw on positive psychology, solution-focused, and ecosystemic approaches, with a strong focus on amplifying student and family voice and ensuring support feels meaningful, respectful, and achievable.
Our Approach
Child-Centred and Neurodiversity-Affirming
At The Open Road Collective, our work is grounded in the belief that children and young people thrive when they feel understood, supported, and connected. We take a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming, and relational approach, working closely with children and young people with diverse needs, including autism, ADHD, and complex communication needs. Our focus is on creating inclusive environments where every child feels seen, heard, and valued, and where their unique ways of thinking, learning, and communicating are recognised as strengths.

Relational, Reflective, and Evidence-Informed Practice
Our practice draws on positive psychology, solution-focused, and ecosystemic approaches, with a strong emphasis on listening to and amplifying the voices of children, young people, and their families. We value collaboration, reflection, and cultural responsiveness, and aim to provide support that is practical, evidence-informed, and meaningful within real educational contexts. By working alongside families and educators, we support shared understanding and sustainable change.

Systemic and Collaborative Change
Meaningful change does not happen in isolation. We work in partnership with schools, organisations, and professionals through consultation, training, and supervision to strengthen systems of support around children and young people. Our goal is to amplify young people’s voices, empower communities, and build confidence across the systems that support learning and wellbeing. Above all, we believe that no child’s journey should be walked alone — our role is to walk alongside children, families, and educators with curiosity and care as each learner finds their own way forward.

Our Values
Compassion
We approach every child and family with empathy, understanding and care for their unique circumstances.
Collaboration
We believe in working with all stakeholders as partners on the journey.
Person Centred
We believe every child should have a say in the decision making of their lives.
Accessibility
We are committed to making our services accessible to all, such as through online delivery methods.
